I believe my devotion to this City is evident. The residents of Simi Valley deserve a Mayor they can trust and one that listens. As your Mayor I will listen and serve with integrity. My wife, Shelby and I, have raised two daughters here in Simi Valley. We now have two grandsons attending Simi Valley School District schools. I served this community as a member of the Ventura County Fire Department for 31 years, retiring in 2005 as the Chief Arson Investigator. After retirement I served as a Ventura County Supervisors aid, a Simi Valley Planning Commissioner and for the past 6 years have served on the Simi Valley City Council. Shelby and I have entrepreneurial spirit and have owned and operated three successful local retail businesses, Awards Specialties, Java Island and Mashburn Kawasaki. |

Johnna was a young woman who lost her battle with cancer on March 21, 2009. Through it all, she was lovingly supported by a women’s cancer support group that called themselves “Hany’s Hair Em.” This group of women chose this name because their beloved Dr. Hany Khalil was Egyptian and they all had an on-again, off-again, relationship with their hair due to chemotherapy.Johnna’s mom, Maryann Fiore Hopkins, created the High Tea Party in her memory. Its purpose is to help provide assistance to the group that had provided so much support to her.In 2011, Dr. Hany Khalil formed the Marcelle Erian Cancer Foundation. To this day it provides counseling, medical supplies, family assistance, medications and personal support to cancer patients not covered by insurance plans.Johnna’s Tea Party has been a local community event since 2009. The funds it raises continue to support cancer patients. Thank you for your participation and support. |

Bugible
May 14, 2019 7:00 p.m.
Not only are insects healthy for the environment, but they are packed with nutrients for us as well. If we compare 100g of crickets to 100g of beef, crickets have 2-3 times more protein; more calcium, iron, vitamin A, fiber, potassium; an ideal omega 3 to 6 ratio; and all 9 essential amino acids. Insects are gluten-free, paleo, and arguably vegan. The only thing holding us back is our cultural biases and stigmas. |
