Stories
Last Sunday was a very special Sunday for our Rotary After Dark(RAD) aka Simi Sunset Rotary club! We hosted our 14th annual Johnna's Tea Party to help raise funds for Cancer survivor and other local non-profits. It was an elegant afternoon of High Tea, beautiful Harp music from Elaine Lister, live auction of fantastic trips and opportunities, Tea Pot raffles, and of course our fabulous silent auction items.

We would like to thank our club volunteers and the volunteers from the other Simi Rotary clubs as well as the Boy Scouts and others who helped us prepare for this amazing event.
And a big THANK YOU to all who bought tickets and enjoyed a fabulous afternoon with us. WE couldn't support the good causes we do without you supporting our Rotary club. Thank you!

If you missed it this year, we hope to see you next year!

Rotarians at Work - Today all 5 Rotary clubs from Simi and Moorpark took part in our regularly scheduled cleanup of Tierra Rejada. Rotary sponsored the cleaning of Tierra Rejada. Today we found a couch (with an active bee hive), 2 full sized semi truck tires, and 20+ bags of litter and misc. other large items.

For our April 8th meeting We invited Ashley Duran and Doreen Stoutland from GiGi's Playhouse Simi Valley to discuss their commitment to increase positive awareness of Down syndrome through national campaigns, educational programs, and by empowering individuals with Down syndrome, their families and the community. GiGi's Playhouse is a free service and they are open now! Please visit their FB page and support them if you can.

In addition, Rotarian Sally celebrated 21 year with the Rotary Club of Simi Sunset! Big ups to Sally!
For our April 1st meeting, it was no joke. Patricia Jones and Michael Christie from New West Symphony gave a rousing lecture on their organization and also how to conduct a symphony. we think our Rotarian Stephanie is ready for the big leagues, check out her video! (You will need to visit our Facebook page for this video at https://www.facebook.com/SimiSunsetRotary)

In addition, club member Wayne celebrated his 21st year as a Rotarian! Congrats Wayne!
For our March 25th meeting our club was treated to a presentation on Ray "Crash" Corrigan and the history of Corrigan park. Local Real Estate agent Clyde "Bill" Oliver talked us through the origins of the actor and his park. Clyde actually has a series on YouTube where he visited 49 Simi parks in 49 days. You can view it all on his channel here: https://www.youtube.com/@clydebilloliver9462/videos

We also celebrated the belated birthdays of two club members Phil and Wayne!

Shoes for Little Souls - one of our clubs signature events was held on Wednesday, March 19th. This is the first time we've held the event twice in one year. For today's event we helped twelve students from our three middle schools in Simi Valley by providing $250 each to purchase a new pair of shoes and some clothing.

Additionally, from the event the Kohl's Cash collected will be donated to a family whose home was recently destroyed by a fire. This family has four children who attend Simi Valley schools, bringing the total number of kids served through our two Shoes for Little Souls events this year to 40!

Great job Rotary After Dark (RAD), aka Simi Sunset Rotary!

On March 18th our club met and heard from our very own Frankie on the non-profit she runs, Operation Blue Christmas which is focused on building better relationships with children and the local police department. Operation Blue Christmas is always looking for donations throughout the year and volunteers, especially near the holidays. You can find more information on how to help at https://www.operationbluechristmas.org/ or by scanning the QR Code in the image below.

They are always looking for volunteers, please reach out to them if you want to make a positive impact on a child's life.

In addition we celebrated our very own past president Bill's wedding anniversary!

For our March 4th meeting we were visited by Moorpark College Athletics who presented updates on the opening of their new Beach Volleyball Stadium and discussed the importance of community work, maintaining grades, and being a top notch athlete at Moorpark College. Acting Director Aaron Hedland presented the updates and we heard from two of their Volleyball stars as well.
