On February 28th our club visited For The Troops and helped prepare boxes to be shipped out to those serving our country in foreign lands. It's just a small part of how we give back to the local community and SUPPORT OUR TROOPS!

During our February 18th meeting we were visited by local girl scout troop #65436 who helped start our meeting, informed us of some of their community involvement activities, and believe it or not, sold us delicious cookies! Thank you Troop 65436 for spending time with @Rotary Club of Simi Sunset !

 

 

 

Afterwards our own RADster Rick discussed the very important Rotary Foundation. This is where some of our monthly dues go to support worthy causes around the world. While our local fundraising efforts do stay locally, some of our membership dues go to support the international efforts of our organization. February 11th our club helped club member Maryann celebrate 30 years of marriage to her husband Paul. Congrats to both of you!

We also hosted very special guest Natalie Christmann from For The Troops who shared how the organization started and what they are doing today.

For The Troops is an all-volunteer run 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to providing members of the American military with ‘We Care’ packages containing basic necessities, goodies, games and—most of all—a show of support.

Since its inception in 2005, For The Troops has substantially grown in volunteers and donors, and has distributed more than 250,000 packages year-round to American troops who risk their lives overseas every day—far away from the comforts of home.

 

During the meeting our club wrote postcards to deployed troops and will be filling boxes for those troops on February 28th at FTP's location in Simi Valley.
 

During our January 21st meeting we celebrated notorious RAD member Mark's birthday as well as welcoming Sandee McGee from the Simi Valley Cultural Arts Center. Sandee presented us with the history of the location as well as the history of the Cultural Arts Center. This amazing organization is a gem in the heart of Simi and if you've never attended an event here it should be at the top of your list.
